T-Mobile USA adds 4.1 million net new customers in 2008

T-Mobile USA is on a roll. In fact, the company reported that they added 4.1 million net new customer in 2008. For the fourth quarter alone, the company added 621,000 net new customers. 1.13 million customers were acquired as a part of T-Mobile USA’s acquisition of SunCom Wireless in February 2008.

T-Mobile was able to keep their existing contract customers with a churn rate of just 2.4% in the fourth quarter. Helping to retain and attract new customers last year was T-Mobile USA’s build-out of the company’s 3G network. The company reported that 40% of the device sold to subscribers in the fourth quarter were converged devices. Of those, more than half were 3G enabled.

T-Mobile USA has a business model which is working quite well for it. They may take a little bit of a hit this year if the economy continues to slow down, but it looks like they won’t have any problem coming out of it in the long run. The next version of the Android smartphone could be just the boost T-Mobile USA needs this year
