Aishwarya Rai as India's most bankable star in Hollywood, pushing down the Khans of Bollywood in the ratings of the best bet for a film's financial success. Aishwarya is among six Bollywood actors in the new Forbes list of Hollywood's Most Valuable Actors. Other Indians on the list compiled by the American business magazine are Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Irfan Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Although at 387th position in the global list of as many as 1,411 actors from across the world, Aishwarya is ranked highest among all Indian actors and is the only female actor from the country who made it to this elite club. The list also includes Indian American actor Kal Penn, whose films include "The Namesake". At 476th position, he is ranked higher than all the Bollywood actors, except Aishwarya Rai, who stars in the new Hollywood venture "The Pink Panther 2". Among the male Bollywood actors, Aamir is ranked highest at 540th in the global list, followed by Shah Rukh (735), Salman (753), Irrfan (825) and Hrithik (1,059). The global list, topped by Hollywood actor Will Smith, is based on the bankability of actors around the world as voted by members of the global entertainment industry, Forbes said. Smith is the only actor to get a ten-on-ten score and is followed by four Hollywood stars - Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie - sharing the second position.
Abhishek Bachchan is supposedly married to the woman considered the most beautiful woman in the world. However its not what Abhishek thinks. His idea of beauty is what is epitomised by someone much older than he. Yes he thinks Waheeda Rehman is the most beautiful woman on the Earth. “I’ve worked with Waheeda aunty before in Om Jai Jagdish. It was a sheer honour to work with her again. She is the most dignified and beautiful lady on Earth. She’s such a wonderful person to be on the sets with. She has this aura about her which lights up everyone’s life and I can’t be more privileged that I have already done two films with her. Actors go through their entire career not having an opportunity to work with her because she doesn’t do lot of work. I was very excited that she had agreed to do Delhi 6.”
Being very talented and beautiful makes her one of the most envied actresses in filmdom. Ash has even left behind hubby Abhi too. And though he’s very supportive of her, he’s also a little bit jealous. And most of it is because of the attention she’s getting from her co-star of Pink Panther 2, Steve Martin. Abhishek remarks, “We were at the premiere of ‘Pink Panther 2′ and it was great fun. It’s a hilarious film. Steve Martin is a genius. I am very jealous of Ash. He is someone I have been idolising when I was growing up. And Ash gets the opportunity to work with the likes of Steve Martin and Jeremy Irons.” But he’s looking forward to his films with wifey and hoping that the great personal and professional chemistry continues for a long, long time
Aishwarya Rai walked down the red-carpet yesterday for the Premiere of her latest international flick, Pink Panther 2 with hubby Abhishek and pa-in-law Amitabh Bachchan. Ask her about her blink and miss role in PP2 and she says, “It’s a bit silly and exhausting to even talk about the length of my role based on what is seen in the trailers. Did anyone question my role in Khakee, when there was only one shot of me in the promo? Isn’t that a very myopic view of contemporary acting? And I thought I had transcended this footage fetish in my first film Iruvar (1997).” “The choices I have made in my career aren’t just about footage but an opportunity to work with actors, directors and technicians who enrich my life.
I didn’t work in Pink Panther 2 only because it was an international project. It was a wonderful experience working with a stalwart like Steve Martin and the rest of the cast and crew. Of course, Pink Panther is a Steve Martin vehicle. Is that s o m e - thing to question? All the rest of the wonderful cast including Jean Reno and Andy Garcia play supporting roles. I treasure the experience of working in Pink Panther 2. Why spoil it by questioning how much footage I have? So many Indian actors have worked in international ensemble casts.” Well so do you like Ash’s look at the premiere?
Though her name features towards the end, she still managed to outshine an internationally renowned face like that of singer-actress Beyonce. Ash is the only Indian beauty in the top 50.
Voters were asked to select their ideal partner based on ‘intelligence, charisma and ambition’ in the survey.
The list is topped by American actress Eva Mendes followed by other names like Anne Hathaway, Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Angelina Jolie, Heidi Klum and Jessica Alba.
Two years back Ash was voted the 9th most beautiful woman in a survey by Harpers and Queen.
But even after marriage and at 35 she’s considered piping hot.
Ash has also cleverly managed her career after marriage.
She has movies like Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ravana’ with hubby Abhishek Bachchan, ‘Endhiran’ (Robot) with Rajinikanth, a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film opposite Hrithik Roshan, a Farhan Akhtar-Ritesh Sidhwani production co-starring Abhi and a film with Akshay Kumar.
Well, this dame seems to deservingly have all the luck.
