OCZ expands Alchemy line with Illuminati backlit keyboard

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , ,

OCZ Technology's Elixir keyboard was fine and dandy, but let's face it -- it's pretty hard to beat the awesomeness of a keyboard with lights. Today, the company is expanding its Alchemy peripheral line with the Illuminati multimedia keyboard, a board with rubber coated keys, fourteen quick launch buttons and the choice of two backlit colors (red or blue, naturally). OCZ promises that the keys can withstand over five million cycles, and given its USB 2.0 port, it should play nice with just about any machine you jam it into. Regrettably, the company has failed to divulge a price here, but it's supposedly "attainable on all budgets" -- whatever that means.

Keyboard on the new Asus Eee 1000HE ‘like night and day’

Those lucky bastards (with whom we have a wonderful relationship) at Laptop Magazine got the new Asus Eee 1000HE yesterday and apparently the Sony/MacBook style chiclet keyboard is “like night and day” over previous Eee models – the 1000H, in particular.

It’ll be interesting to see if other netbook manufacturers adopt the same style of keyboard if the one on the 1000HE is truly all it’s cracked up to be. Apparently Laptop was able to fire off a nail polish-melting 83 words per minute (what?!) and relished in the fact that the right Shift key has finally been placed to the left of the up arrow key where it belongs.

By the way, that 83 words per minute score was versus a 75 words per minute score on a desktop keyboard. Say it ain’t so, but could this netbook actually have a usable keyboard?
