Will Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Zac Efron and Rob Pattinson wow Oscars' viewers?

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , , , , , ,

This year's Oscars are being touted as "The Biggest Movie Event of the Year" in ads running on ABC, a trailer directed by the Oscar-nominated John Singleton ("Boyz N the Hood"), and both online and in print. Can the show live up to all this hype?

First-time Oscar-cast producers Bill Condon and Larry Mark's last collaboration was "Dreamgirls" — the 2006 socko stage-to-screen adaptation of a 25-year-old Broadway musical — so this dynamic duo has proven they can inject new life into an old show. As details continue to be revealed, we know the following:

• There will be a red carpet — despite rumors to the contrary — filled with many of this year's nominees and guests. However, certain star presenters will skip that stroll so they can sneak in the back door and make a surprise appearance later onstage at the Kodak Theatre. But it's no surprise that some of the hottest stars of today will be there — Robert Pattinsonand Vanessa Hudgens("Twilight"), Zac Efron ("High School Musical"), Miley Cyrus ("Hannah Montana"),Amanda Seyfried ("Mamma Mia!") and Beyonce Knowles. Their appearances wereleaked in the last few days.

• Host Hugh Jackman will appear in a musical number staged by his "Australia" director Baz Luhrmann. And no worries on that front — Jackman won the 2004 Tony Award for playing singer-songwriter Peter Allen (himself a 1982 Oscar winner for his work on the theme for "Arthur"). Jackman also picked up an Emmy in 2005 for hosting that 2004 Tony-cast (he also emceed that show in '03 and '05).

• The stage has been completely reconfigured by the building's architect, David Rockwell, to evoke a nightclub, with the orchestra as a backdrop, a circular platform extending out into the theater and the audience grouped around this. The set, such as it is, will evolve through the evening, with changes being made on camera. "The look of the theater is very different," Hugh Jackman told the Associated Press. "It's more like the nightclub of your dreams. It's very intimate."

• The two dozen awards, along with the honorary Oscar to Jerry Lewis, will be presented in the context of a story that involves both the presenters and the nominees. Not sure what that means, but it sounds intriguing enough. So don't expect the usual scenario: one of the supporting awards bestowed in the first half-hour, followed by a long drought till the usual deluge of top awards in the last half-hour.

• Oscar nominee Queen Latifah ("Chicago") will croon "I'll Be Seeing You" during the "In Memoriam" tribute to those moviemakers we lost in the last year.

• Funnyman Bruce Vilanch — who has a pair of Emmys for helping write the 1991 and 1992 Oscarcasts — has been upped from mere gagmeister to serious contributor.

• And, finally, studios will get to showcase upcoming releases — such as the latest "Harry Potter" — in 10-second spots that will run on a split screen with the end credits.

Miley Cyrus Apologizes For Photos - Again

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , ,

Miley Cyrus has apologized for a second time following the scandal over pictures of theHannah Montana star in which she appeared to mock Asians.

The 16-year-old was forced to say sorry after photos leaked last week of her and a group of male pals pulling on their eyes - while one Asian-American sat among them. The apology was rejected by officials at a leading Asian-American organization who insisted it was "not enough." So Cyrus has taken to her website to issue a further apology for the offensive photos - and to thank fans for their support over the furor.

She writes, "I want to thank all of my fans for their support not only this week, but always! I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is a part of God's ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman he aspires me to be. Peace and love, Miles."

Miley Cyrus Apology Rejected By Asian Americans

The scandal over pictures of Miley Cyrus appearing to mock Asians is refusing to die down - officials at a leading Asian-American organization have rejected her apology, insisting it's "not enough".

The 16-year-old pop star was forced to say sorry after photos of her and a group of male pals making slanty-eyed gestures appeared online.

Cyrus said, "I've... been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I'm sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong (sic) and out of context! In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face."

But officials at the Organization of Chinese Americans, who first complained about the candid shots, aren't satisfied. Director George Wu says, "It's not a real apology. We're not backing down without a fuller apology."

Miley Cyrus has taken to her official fan site to issue a heartfelt apology for the racially offensive photograph she took with her friends.

In the picture, Miley is seen using her fingers to make her eyes slant, which is considered degrading to Asian people.

It is the 16 year old’s second apology following the advocate group OCA, a national organization dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans, releasing a statement saying the teen set "a terrible example for her many young fans" by "mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent."

On her official fan site, Miley writes: "I want to thank all of my fans for their support not only this week, but always! I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is a part of GOD’s ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman he aspires me to be. Peace and love, Miles"

Miley first apologized for the picture, which surfaced on the web, last week but was criticized for not being genuine or quick enough in her response to the controversy.

Miley Cyrus' mother is a "nervous wreck" when her daughter drives. The "Hannah Montana" star recently passed her driving test, but admits her mom Leticia Finley is still scared to get in a vehicle if she is behind the wheel.

The 16-year-old star insists she can handle her car and is determined not to let her mother's anxiety get to her.

She said: "I love driving, and I'm pretty good at it - I really am!"

Miley drives a Porsche, but it was recently reported she hates being seen in the luxury motor as it used to belong to her mom.

Explaining she would have preferred a brand new model, Miley said: "I do have a car. I took my mom's old car. I didn't get the one I wanted, but I got the old car which wasn't so bad because it was a Porsche. I suppose it was a pretty good hand me down."

The actress also revealed she found learning to drive hard, not least because she was attacked by a fruit-wielding assailant during one lesson.

She said: "I already had a big Student Driver sign over my head, and someone threw a banana at me!
