Posted by: shilpz in , , , , ,

Young and charming Shahid Kapur goes bare bodied while shooting for Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Kaminay’ and girls could not stop cheering for the actor. They whistled, screamed on looking Shahid Kapur riding a horse without shirt.

Shahid is young and so he could easily mingle with the youngsters. ''Shahid is happy about it. He feels honored to be college crowds favourite. Also his zara hatke role in ‘Kaminay’ is sure to give him a top billing among other actors. ‘Kaminay’ will change Shahid's entire image. It is going to put him being a hot contender amongst the others. Also working with Vishal Bharadwaj has been amazing,'' said the source.

A friend of Shahid said, ''He wants to be that way! Also Shahid feels that playing characters older than your real age can fall flat on screen at times and he does not want to land up doing anything stupid.''

In ‘Kaminay’, Shahid will be in a ‘never seen before’ role and for that he has undergone a massive makeover.

Shahid is happy that offers are coming his way slowly and steadily. In ‘Kaminay’, he pairs opposite hot Priyanka Chopra.

AR Rahman and Pussycat Dolls Remix 'Jai Ho'

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , , , ,

There's just no stopping A.R. Rahman! We got our hands on the remix of the Oscar winning song 'Jai Ho' featuring someone who is all too familiar with Desi Hits!, The Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Desi Hits! CEO Anjula Acharia-Bath was one the first to uncover musical genius A.R. Rahman with Interscope records CEO Jimmy Iovine hard at work on the remix of this song from 'Slumdog Millionaire'. "I really think it’ll be a great dance anthem. It had an amazing beat and great writers; this track is the epitome of what Desi Hits! stands for, the collaboration of sounds from the East and West," said Anjula.

So does the song hold up? Well Nicole Scherzinger adds sexy vocals to the drum beats of A.R. Rahman. The song still contains the elements of the original version, which people loved enough to give an Oscar to. And Nicole Scherzinger stated in a past interview with Desi Hits! that she wanted to go Bollywood, and now she has.

She actually fits the instrumental in a refreshing and surprising way. This cultural anthem which captivates the audience during the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' is remixed to give you something new which will continue to give this film even more crossover appeal than it already has. As if 8 Oscars wasn't enough.

Stylistically, A.R. Rahman's instrumentation actually compliments the Pussycat Dolls style. The mesh of east and west comes together making it more into a love song adding lyrics that tell a story. If you close your eyes you can almost picture Latika and Jamal kissing in the train station.

With all the clarity in production I wonder if A.R. Rahman used the Dr. Dre headphones to mix the song. Wouldn't you guys love to know? Well check out our first article on this remix to find out.

Desi Hits Exclusive On A.R. Rahmans 'Jai Ho' Remix

Other than that we would love to know what you guys think about this song. We here at Desi Hits! are proud to be one of the first media outlets to deliver it. After 2 Oscars A.R. Rahman continues to make his mark in the US. Is Bollywood beginning to take over the U.S.? Drop us a comment and let us know what you think.

Smile Pinki wins Oscar Award

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , , , ,

Crackers were burst and sweets distributed in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur Dabai village Monday as "Smile Pinki", a documentary about a girl from the dusty hamlet whose cleft lip made her a social outcast, won an Oscar.

As American filmmaker Megan Mylan received the award for best short documentary in Los Angeles, residents of the village in Mirzapur district turned ecstatic.

Nirmala Devi, the mother of the film's protagonist Pinki Sonkar, was proud that her daughter's shy smile had managed to woo the jury of the 81st Academy Awards.

Hundreds of villagers, carrying cutouts of Pinki and raising slogans in praise of the little girl who was once ostracised because of her cleft lip, lined up outside Nirmala Devi's small hut to congratulate her.

"It's an honour for all of us that a poor girl has put this village on the international map," village head Pradeep Vishwakarma told IANS on phone.

"We were overjoyed when we saw on news channels that the documentary on Pinki had won an important award," he added.

Legislator Anil Kumar Maurya said: "Pinki has made not only Rampur Dabai village, but the entire country proud. She has achieved a feat which most of us had not even imagined."

The 39-minute documentary traces Pinki's journey from being ostracised to being treated like a normal girl after a social worker helped her undergo surgery.

Mylan says the happy ending inspired her to show Pinki's story.

"As a filmmaker who focuses on social issue documentaries, it is rare that I get into a film knowing we're likely to have a happy ending. So, I was excited to tell the story of this beautiful hospital and a team of doctors and social workers treating their patients with such compassion and quality care and making a positive impact," said Mylan.

Mahesh Bhatt claims to be a copycat

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , ,

Mahesh BhattA panel discussion at FICCI Frames had an interesting debate titled ‘Cut Copy Paste To Indian Taste’ that was attended by leading Bollywood names such as Dibakar Banerjee, Rohan Sippy, Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan and Mahesh Bhatt.

The buzz is that this almost became a wrestling match.

Seasoned writer-director Mahesh Bhatt without any remorse made a confession,

He apparently said, “I’m a thief, every word or phrase that I use has been lifted or sourced from some other place. I want to make a living what is your problem.”

The self confessed spokesperson of the industry is mighty bold but obviously this comment didn’t go well with many.

Kabeer Khan said, “How long can you get away with stealing? Now the foreign studios are here, they will sue you from here to eternity.”

Imtiaz Ali rightly said, “The topic is itself not an original idea and by the end of it we will get into a wrestling match.”

People who support this concept lke David Dhawan, Sanjay Gupta, Sajid Khan and many others are still in business.

This sure is a debate which will go on for a long, long time in B-Town

Slumdog kids get ready for the Oscars

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , , , , , ,

Slumdog kidsChild artistes Mohammed Azharuddin’s and Rubina Ali are getting their passports done and visas done for their visit to the Oscars.

The Slumdog kids, as they are known these days, are supposed to go to Los Angeles for the Oscars.

Rubina has said, “Not in my dreams did I ever think that I will go to America. I have to buy clothes and shoes for the award ceremony.”

Azhar has added, “Even I would not have ever thought this but I am really happy. I have to thank Danny uncle as I am going to America.”

They have been assured of their passports but the Visa formalities are yet to be settled and it remains to be seen whether these kids can actually make it to the Oscars or not.

Meanwhile the controversy surrounding the compensation given to the child actors for the film continues. Producer Christian Colson says that the family was given money from a fund set up to build a new home but the parents deny it.

Azhar’s father Mohammed Ismail, a TB patient says, “Just provide us with a house, we don’t want any car or money.”

We hope there’ll indeed be a brighter tomorrow for these kids post the Oscars.

Shilpa Shetty’s super costly music video

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , ,

Shilpa who joined the IPL league after Preity Zinta is set to make a super rich music video to promote her cricket team.

The sizzling music video will have an evocative Rajasthani-folk number entitled ‘Halla Bol’ composed by Anand Raj Anand.

Interestingly it will be choreographed by Ken Ghosh who stopped doing music videos after turning feature filmmaker.

Shilpa says, “I’m so glad Ken is making an exception for me. We chose Anand Raj Anand because he’s an expert at catchy folk songs. I first worked in a film with his music when he scored for Pardesi Babu. I was simply bowled over by the numbers. Today when I hear the song he has composed for our team I feel deeply enthused.”

Shilpa’s beau and co-partner Raj Kundra is mighty excited by Anand Raj Anand’s Rajasthani song and have apparently decided to shell out a mini fortune close to Rs. 1 crore, to shoot the song featuring Shilpa.

The inside buzz is that the video would be better than anything that she has done. The word is that close to a total amount of Rs. 3 crores is expected to be spent.

The source has said, “From ‘UP Bihar Lootne’ to ‘Shut Up And Bounce’…Shilpa’s item songs have always been special. She wants her IPL music video to be her best item song ever. She’s working on the costumes, accessories everything in advance so that when they shoot the video in March she’ll sizzle like never before.”

However Shilpa refused to reveal any figures and simply said that they could all see the effect in the video.

Amitabh Bachchan to get Robin Williams’ Makeup Artist

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , ,

So far the closest any filmmaker has come to changing Amitabh Bachchan’s look was Raj Kumar Santoshi who got the icon to trim his trademark beard to play the cop in Khakee.

Now Balki, the mega-star’s close friend and creative ally who made the generation-challenged romance Cheeni Kam, will completely change the Big B’s look in their next film together.

The actor requires a new look, and for this purpose Balki has acquired the services of the renowned Hollywood makeup artiste Stephan Dupuis.

Dupuis, a two-time Oscar winner was responsible for Robin Williams’ utterly-credible drag act in Mrs Doubtfire.

Says Balki, “My new film Pa requires very careful calibration. Mr Bachchan will be changing over to a completely new look for the role. I won’t say we don’t have any makeup artistes in India who could’ve done the needful. But after seeing Dupuis’ work in Mrs Doubtfire I felt he was the right person to give Mr Bachchan the makeover he requires.”

The hyper-busy actor known to be extremely finicky about get-ups and false hair pieces has decided to surrender completely to Balki and Dupuis’ vision.

The internationally saluted makeup maestro who has recently styled Sean Penn in the celebrated bio-pic Milk, was familiar with the Big B’s work and is now catching some of his best films on DVD to see how far the actor has experimented with his looks in the past.

Interestingly Mr Bachchan has never done too many variations on his looks.

Not counting the wizened facial disguise in Aakhri Raasta and Sooryvansham to play the patriarch, the elaborate takeoff on Mehmood in Desh Premi and the eunuch’s song in Lawaaris.

Balki the super-gifted admaker who gave a new twist to the concept of cross-generation love by casting Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu as a pair in Cheeni Kum is all set to start his second feature film Pa.

But this time, no Tabu.

In Chennai to finalize the illustrious Ilayaraja for the music and P.C. Sreeram for the cinematography Balki explains, “I’d have loved to cast Tabu again. But Mr Bachchan has no romantic lead opposite him and it’d have looked really odd to cast Tabu opposite Abhishek so soon after she had played his father’s co-star.”

So Vidya Balan, it is.

But the focus is on the father-son jodi. A bit of a cliché, no, to cat Senior and Junior Bachchan as father and son in a film called Pa?

“You have to see it to know what they play. This is not a conventional father-son story. If Cheeni Kum was a casual comedy Pa is a casual tragedy.”

The film will be shot in Delhi and Gwalior

Blog war is not for SRK

Aamir Khan might be expressing his feelings about his friends and foes through his blog but King Khan doesn’t believe in reciprocating in a similar fashion. Aamir has spoken and written about SRK but King Khan doesn’t want to get into the blog war.

When asked if he’d use a blog to answer someone back he replied, “Other people might use a blog to promote their films or voice their opinions about someone” He revealed that more than writing about his friends and foes on blog he would like to write about his life. “I will use it to write about zindagi…life, as I already have the media who conveys all my messages to my fans.”

Needless to say that SRK’s life-tale will be interesting to read, hope you recover fast and bounce back soon.

Ranbir and Deepika hit a rough patch in their relationship just like every couple. Seemed like they had a tiff over something so to forget things they decided to go for a film.

A source reports an eyewitness account, “An eyewitness says, “It was a late-night show for Marley and Me. The hall had only a handful of people present.

Ranbir and Deepika got the best seats in the house right in the last row in the corner with ample privacy. The couple looked a little distant.

Ranbir was pre-occupied on his phone and Deepika was looking very bored. At some point, they began talking and then made up and made out.

The people who were present at the screening at some point screamed at them to ‘get a room’, which was ignored by Ranbir.”

After the film Ranbir and Deepika made their way to the car park where Ranbir’s brand new Range Rover was waiting with his driver. Ranbir ordered the driver to get on the back seat while he and Deepika sat in the front and made their way towards Bandra.

Named 'Baby Beri', the collection is Beri's line of occasion wear for kids segregated in three sub-divisions - Beri Princess, Rock Star Babes and Bollywood Divas.

Big B's wait for an autograph

Posted by: shilpz in , , , , , ,

Can u believe that once Amitabh Bachchan was not given an autograph by the legendry Dilip Kumar? Well it is true. Do not jump into conclusions as at that time Big B was a young fellow who had come to Mumbai as a tourist.

The unfolding of events during Mr.Bachchan's meeting with Dilip Kumar in 1960 makes up for an interesting reading material.

Check it out from the film star's own words:

"I remember the first time I ever saw him. I had come to Bombay as a visitor with my parents. My father was here to take part in a Kavi Sammelan. Our hosts had taken us out to visit some of the awe inspiring sights and locations of this great city, which for small time and small town me had been like a dream, a fantasy, unperceivable and unimaginable.

It was a prominent restaurant, in now what is commonly referred to as South Bombay, where Dilip Kumar, the Dilip Kumar, walked in. Standing majestically some distance from the entrance door in conversation with some friends, animated and oblivious to the excited occupants of the eatery.

Urged by the elders and eager to go up and greet him and to ask him to oblige us with an autograph, I ran out of the restaurant to a nearby stationary store to buy an autograph book.

Out of breath with excitement and apprehension, I walked back to the legend and softly put up my request. Poised statue like, hand extended with the book, I repeated my quivering words to him. He remained unmoved. Either to me or to the book. In a short while, he turned and left. I followed his departure, book in hand and a little embarrassed and self-conscious and disappointed, returned to my seat, consoled by the elders with me not to take it personally. He may not have noticed you, or perhaps he was too busy with what was transpiring between him and is friends. I understood with some trepidation. End of meeting with Dilip Kumar.

Time passed. The premier of my film 'Black' and I am honored by the presence of Dilip Saheb at the IMAX in Wadala for it.. After the film was over, I found him waiting outside the theatre for me to emerge. I walked up to him. He stretched out his hands to me and held both of mine and stood looking me in the eye, without saying a word. An eternity passed. No one spoke.

They were the most eloquent moments in my life with Mr Dilip Kumar!!

Two days later a letter came from him applauding my work. And signed, DILIP KUMAR

After 46 years I got the autograph I had craved for.
