T-Mobile gets 8-megapixel Samsung Memoir

Rumblings about the Samsung Memoir have been sweeping through the blogsphere since the year began, but it was only late Wednesday when we finally heard the official word from Samsung. As expected, the Memoir, aka the SGH-T929, is an 8-megapixel camera phone that is winding up at none other than T-Mobile. We don't know the price or when it will be in stores, but Samsung promises that it will go on sale by the end of the month.

Similar to its cousin, the 8-megapixel Samsung Innov8, the Memoir walks a thin line between phone and camera. We hope that it performs both tasks equally well, because a phone that can't make a decent call isn't really worth much at all.

Not surprisingly, the feature set hinges on multimedia. Users will be able to upload their photos directly to online sharing sources like Flickr, Kodak gallery, Photobucket and Snapfish, all of which actually let you get photos off the phone in a convenient, cost-efficient manner. You'll be able to shoot video as well, and you'll find a Xenon flash and a 16x zoom. Otherwise, we imagine that the shooter will include tons off editing features that will rival those on a standalone camera.

Other goodies include Samsung's user-friendly TouchWiz interface, a virtual QWERTY keyboard, messaging and e-mail, a digital music player, assisted-GPS, Bluetooth, a personal organizer, a speakerphone and voice-activated dialing. And best of all, the Memoir will support T-Mobile's growing 3G network.

It's worth noting that the Memoir puts T-Mobile firmly ahead of other U.S. carriers in the high-end camera phone race. The carrier also offers the 5-megapixel Motorola ZN5.
